Fellowship with others in the body of Christ is a function of our fellowship with God. Our fellowship is with the Father, and as we walk in the light, we have fellowship with one another. We are saved as individuals, but we are saved only as we are joined to Christ, and since he is joined to the rest of his body–so we are joined. We are called in one body, baptized into one body, made to drink of one Spirit. (I Cor 12:13) Though, in this sense, fellowship defines the church, because of the progressive nature of our salvation we must devote ourselves to fellowship.
